Mary Anne's Magic

Mary Anne, to lots of you, that's UK MaryAnne of scrappystickyinky mess, in Hampshire, made these super colourful quilts quite some time ago and took the opportunity, at my suggestion, to hand them to Donna when they met up in Wiltshire. Donna planned to come up North to visit me and deliver them but in the meantime badly sprained her ankle but all is not lost as we drove to Derby on Saturday, had a lovely day with her, she made a beautiful lunch for us, we met Lilly her new puppy, did a bit of crafting, and finally collected these three super quilts. All's well that ends well.

Love the cow print on the back and it also trims the kit bag.

Bright yellows and gold shades for No 60 with little triangle trims all around the edge. I know Mary Anne found this quite difficult to do but she did it so well.

This bag too turns the quilt into a soft pillow. 

Thanks so much Mary Anne and I'm so pleased to get have them at last to take along to the unit. I know they'll be a great hit with the children.

Super Star Stamper Sue!

Such a lovely selection of hand crafted cards arrived from our Super Star Stamper Sue H with good timing as I was going to deliver quilts to the hospital unit. 

Sue kindly supports us by making these fabulous cards and one is given to the families with each LillyBo Quilt.

Inside they tell the story of how, and why, we started making the comfort quilts for the children and have a lovely little poem written by Sue. 

They have received so much praise and proved as popular as the quilts!

 I wanted you to see the detail Sue puts into each one and whilst each is so different, they all link in beautifully with the quilts. 

Here's a selection as I certainly can't choose a favourite.

Quilt No 54

When I take photos of the quilts my DH carefully holds each one up and I edit him out but I had to show this one with his legs dangling beneath. aaaahhh! He was in shorts with the weather being so hot!

Here on the matching tote bag you can see all the dinosaurs in the fabric panels that Janet used for the centre. She also, so thoughtfully, included a couple of little dinosaur books hidden in an inside pocket. 

It really will be lots of fun for one of the children.

 Children's Cancer Support

Here's a picture of the most recent delivery of LillyBo quilts to Eddie of CHICS who distributes them to the children.  

Eddie told me that some of the children discarded their old cuddle blankets in favour of their new quilt so it is lovely that all the Super Star's Stitching means so much and brings such joy to them.

Eddie also told me that most of the parents are so touched by the gift of a quilt that they are moved to tears. They are amazed that people they have never met from all over the world can care so much.

I, in return, am so moved to hear this.

Hermosas Colchas, Quilts from Spain

I'm hoping Hermosas Colchas means Beautiful Quilts in English, but I'm sure someone will tell me if it doesn't.

Here are some of the wonderful ladies, in Spain, who stitched eleven quilts for the LillyBo Project.
Many thanks to each and every one of them.
 I'm sure they all have hearts of gold to part with such beautiful treasures but they've given them to such a good cause.

What a collection.... in fact, I've just discovered that the collective phrase is.... 

"A Hotbed of Quilts"!

Super Star Stitchers of Spain

Kate of manualidades por mi blog is part of a craft group in Spain, where she lives, who so kindly made 11 fabulous quilts (and knitted Hello Kitty toys) for the  LillyBo project. As they were unable to find somewhere to donate them in their area, Kate decided that they should come to England for the children here.

Some quilts were made by individual ladies but some were made as a co-operative effort with someone cutting, someone stitching, and someone trimming them.

Lets send a huge vote of thanks to the people involved;

Gloria Bishop, Barbara Weeeks, Francis Mellor, Maureen Crocker, Carol Heath, Theresa Edwards, Angie Carter, Francine Bruzzone, 

and knitted toys by Eileen Kennedy.

Not forgetting the organising by Kate Perry and the help of her son Ben.

I'll showcase the lovely quilts a few at a time and this first one was made by

Kate then hatched up a cunning plan to transport them and when her son Ben visited her for a holiday he was "volunteered" to bring them home with him. The group that made the quilts very generously paid the airline for an extra suitcase (and they filled it), from their charity funds and so they arrived in Birmingham on the next stage of their journey. 

Ben, the Super Quilt Smuggler, brought the suitcase to Liverpool by train and handed them over to me a few days ago. It was so lovely to meet up with this special young man who was so kind to go the extra mile (and more) to do a good deed. Thanks so much to Ben, to Kate, and to all the ladies in the group who made the quilts.

Kate, I know, is very proud of all five of her sons and I can well understand after meeting Ben. 

After meeting at the station we went to Sudely Hall for an early lunch, and a quick browse around, to break his journey.

I just have to show a pic of this beautiful cat who spends most of it's days roaming in and out and strolling around the station. It was just like a mini tiger and so clever at negotiating the automatic doors.
